Botox or Booty Shaking?
Have you ever thought about how the world teaches women to be selfless and to prioritize their time caring for others?
To give and give and give… and be grateful in the ability to do so, like some sort of subservient robot.
We’re applauded for things like “resilience” and “doing it all” and “being so strong.”
And still congratulated for “wow, it doesn’t look like you just had a baby” or “wow she looks sooo good for her age”.
And THEN…
We get sold “self-care” as a $12 bath bomb, botox and $400 spa days, which honestly leave many of us feeling even more isolated.
I don’t know about you, but with all the intense things happening in the world, I feel like we need the “woo woo” more than ever.
Maybe we don’t need logic and reasoning and our thought patterns on an anxious loop…
But community and audacious belief systems.
Space to MOVE and FEEL.
We need art, embodiment, spells and soulful gatherings.
Room for anger and hope.
Both Thrive Embodied Arts and Wild Within Academy was built to be a sanctuary for those to come home to themselves.
Not to escape, but to lean in.
Express, play, engage in sexuality and sensuality without expectation of offering to others. A place to have connection and conversations that matter.
A place for each of us to learn how to…thrive, not just survive.
Now, I know you see the poles and maybe you love them, maybe you’re whatever about them which is great too, I mean hell…maybe you still cast judgement about them too but let me tell you this…
Your movement practice builds capacity for emotion, pleasure & joy.
So maybe it’s time to examine our self care; swap the botox for booty shaking because I’ll tell you what. I’ve been in movement spaces for over 2 decades and when we don’t release things, that sh*t gets STUCK in our body and shows up later. We project it on our kids and our partners, it effects our ability to show up fully in our careers and it also has the potential to formulate dis-ease in the body.
Your movement practice doesn’t have to look like a broadway production or an r&b style MTV music video (remember those!?)
Your movement practice builds capacity for emotion, pleasure & joy.
It’s winter here in the northeast and it’s gonna be like 4 degrees this week, but staying in the sensual, embodied well of your own goodness can allow you stay grounded and present when shit gets chaotic and crazy and bitter cold.
It’s easy to harp on the negative, but what we chose to spend time, emotion & energy on is always ours to make.
And emotional sovereignty, this month’s energy portal, reminds us to handle our own shit even when what’s around us may not be.
