IS POLE DANCING A GOOD WORKOUT?
What if we move for pleasure? For expression? For art? For the health of our minds? For connection to the self? For sexual energy activation that’s not for someone else, or reproduction even? How about just moving for the f*ck of it, too?
When I first found pole dancing, I too thought it would be a “fun way to work out.”
But ya know why I thought that? Because I thought a soft body wasn’t loveable. That I needed to stay “fit” in order to be valuable in this society as a woman. That my “hard body” was more desirable in a partnership, or in a room full of others, too.
When we look back at our life, when we’re near the end on on our death beds, are we gonna be so glad we did all those sit-ups? Or pushed and pushed and pushed ourselves? Or will we long for the days when we were free…to be. The magick moments of connection that brought us healing and hope and allow us to wring out the richness of life so we can actually ENJOY every drop.
Someone recently was like “wow you guys are so anti-fitness.” And it’s not that. I know the value there too.
I just can’t help but be more FOR what’s BEYOND that. What’s past fitness? And “the good work out?”
And what kind of shackles are we constrained by, if fitness and a good workout is the only way we legitimize moving in a female body, too.
Btw…that’s the fricken patriarchy doing what is does, right there.
